10 favourite Gossip Girl scenes (season 1) with honourable mentions

I was feeling nostalgic over season one and just started picspamming like crazy. I'm pretty happy with how most of these turned out but, I have to say that the caps were really easy to work with.

Honourable Mention ll The Wild Brunch

So give me something to believe
Cause I am living just to breathe
And I need something more
To keep on breathing for
So give me something to believe

I'm usually very mixed when it comes to codas but, this one was so pretty and angsty that I fell in love with it. I was pretty obsessed with the song when I first heard it on the show too.

Honourable Mention ll Victor, Victrola

I want you to know, with everything I won’t let this go.
These words are my heart and soul,
I hold on to this moment you know.
Cause I’d bleed my heart out to show, that I won’t let go.

I was totally shocked when this happened and at first the song totally took me out of this moment. Even that grainy sepia effect was strange at first. Then I re-watched it and understood why this was a "moment".

Honourable Mention ll Roman Holiday

Spotted spinning at Wallman rink, the Blair-capades. All the grace of Nancy Kerrigan but, packing the punch of Tonya Harding.

This is when I could actually understand Blair's actions and not hate her for doing it. Hee the last cap is sooo cute.

Honourable Mention ll High Society

Nate: Look, I haven’t worn this sweater in like forever and I just pulled it out today and I found this.
Blair: It’s my pin. I sewed it there so you’d always have my heart on your sleeve.
Nate: I know. You know I figured you might need it back or something if…
Blair: No, it was a gift.

This scene is probably only here because the book fan in me was squeeing so much. I like this scene nonetheless. Nate finally showed some signs of being alive which was refreshing to see. Then, there's Chuck heart breaking in the background while Blair gives into Nate's charm. It was all so Shakespearean and *sigh* they're all so pretty.

Honourable Mention ll The Thin Line between Chuck and Nate

Nate: Did you get what you wanted like you did with all those other girls?
Chuck: Yes, Nathaniel. I took what Blair kept throwing at you and you kept throwing back.
Nate: So somehow you screwing Blair for sport is my fault?
Chuck: It wasn’t for sport. She needed someone when I was there.
Nate: Oh so you cared about her?
Chuck: You guys were broken up.
Nate: For how long? A week? An hour?
Chuck: Look I’m sorry. I know how long you and I have been best friends.
Nate: No, it’s not ok Chuck. From now on you stay away from me. Did you hear what I said? You stay the hell away from me Chuck!

And with this scene it was the end of the Nate/Chuck bromance. After this scene their relationship was written so inconsistently that I can't really enjoy most of them these past seasons. Nate's anger is sort of understandable but, his behaviour was so hypocritical afterwards. There was so much great build-up leading up to this scene though. The whole Nate/Blair/Chuck triangle was done so well in season one that I was sort of disappointed that the aftermath wasn't handled better.

Honourable Mention ll All About my Brother

Jenny: You asked me before if it’s all worth it. My answer is it’s not.
Blair: I tried to warn you. There’s a price to pay. I always knew a girl like you couldn’t afford it.
                                  Jenny: Well, you were right.
Blair: Well, you put up a good fight…for a freshman.
                                  Jenny: Thanks.
Blair: I hope you don’t expect a hug.
Jenny: I don’t expect anything anymore.

Such a perfect way to wrap up the whole Blair vs. Jenny storyline. I felt like it was great character development for Jenny well until the writers threw her character under the bus. Also, a good foundation for all the Blair and Jenny wisdom sharing scenes from later seasons. I love the way Leighton Meester says, "I hope you don't expect a hug." It sounded more affectionate than bitchy. Also, Jenny's last line breaks my heart.

Honourable Mention ll All About my brother

Blair:
Hey, we’re sisters. You’re my family. What is you is me. There’s nothing you could ever say to make me let go. I love you. What is it?

   Serena: I killed someone.
—————————————————————————————————

You are a fever, you are fever.
You ain’t born typical.

They were hands down my favourite relationship in season one. I realized that just as the show became shallower so did their relationship. They hardly interact anymore and when they do it's not even about important things. I just love everything about this scene, the fact that Serena went to Blair first says so much and the concern that Blair shows. ♥ Then there's that killer cliff-hanger.

#10 ll Seventeen Candles

Chuck: Something this beautiful deserves to be seen on someone worthy of its beauty.

First of all, the lighting for this scene is gorgeous and I remember fawning over Blair's dress for a while. I loved Chuck/Blair in this episode. Their banter was adorable and so much was said with just their looks in this scene. I loved the shoulder kiss he gave Blair but, I couldn't find a cap. :/

#9 ll The Wild Brunch

Some might call this a fustercluck… but on the Upper East Side we call it Sunday afternoon.

This scene right here is when I fell in love with the show. All of that built-up tension just playing out wonderfully here. I just love all the dynamics that were set up. I always found Dan/Chuck's antagonism towards each other so interesting. It's a shame that they hardly played that up this season.

08 ll Seventeen Candles

Blair: Do you like me?
Chuck: Define “like”.
Blair: You’ve got to be kidding. I do not believe this.
Chuck: How do you think I feel? I haven’t slept. I feel sick like there’s something in my stomach, fluttering.
Blair: Butterflies? Oh no, no, no. This is not happening.
Chuck: Believe me. No one is more surprised and ashamed than I am.
Blair: Chuck, you know that I adore all of God’s creatures and the metaphors they inspire but, those butterflies have got to be murdered.

OMG THIS SCENE! *squees* I miss this Chuck/Blair dynamic soo much. It's like they're actually equals here and can practically read each other's minds. They are also soo adorable without losing any of that snark. Also, Blair's dress! ♥ Yeah, I don't think I'll stop talking about that. I wanted a dress like that for prom.

07 ll High Society

I’d take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But that’s nothing new.

This scene is just soo gorgeous. My favourite part is the lighting. It's all so glowy with a golden tint, giving off that fairytale feel. I love the contrast between Dan/Serena and Nate/Blair. The lighting for Dan/Serena is bright which is very indicative about what their relationship was like at that point. On the other hand, there's Nate/Blair's relationship that is still full of secrets and they are bathed in this dark lighting. Yeah, I just realized that I like to talk about lighting a lot. In other words, this is a really pretty scene with really pretty people. The End. :D

06 ll The Thin Line between Chuck and Nate

Serena: Stay and fight. I’ll fight with you.
                      Blair: I’m so embarrassed. I’m so…
Serena: So what? Start over. It can be done. I should know. We’ll get through this together.
                       Blair: Promise?
                       Serena: Promise.

I love this scene so, so much. My top 10 is practically filled with Blair and Serena moments. To me they were the true heart of the show. They were the reason I thought this show might not be that much of a guilty pleasure. I don't really have much to say about this scene except I love the many parallels in season one where they are always there for each other. They were like sisters! ♥

05 ll Bad News Blair

Blair: Serena sent you here to talk to me?
Dan: Believe it or not…I actually came here myself.
Blair: Normally, I wouldn’t be so close to you without a tetanus shot.
Dan: My mom kind of left us a couple months ago. Only my dad and my sister don’t really see that because she told us she had to go away for the summer to follow her dreams of being an artist. But, it’s not summer anymore and she’s still up there and that’s all she seems to care about right now. Every time I go to see her, I tell myself this time I’m going to tell her what I think, this time I’m going to look her in the eye and say, “Either come home or leave for good.” So there I was just the other day sitting across the table from her and I didn’t say anything.
Blair: Why not?
Dan: I don’t know. But, I wish I had because even if it didn’t change anything, she would know how I felt.

The writing for this scene is absolutely fantastic. Ngl I thought something would happen between Blair and Dan when I first saw it. I don't feel any shippy vibes from this scene anymore even though they are my OTP now. I love that they sort of bonded over absent parents. Blair and Dan are so alike in some ways. They put people on these pedestals (Nate and Serena) and are eventually disappointed by them. Also, wow Leighton Meester looks soo gorgeous here.

04 ll Poison Ivy

Blair: Dear Serena, my world is falling apart and you’re the only one who would understand. My father left my mother for a model…a male model. I feel like screaming because I don’t have anyone to talk to. You’re gone. My dad’s gone. Nate’s acting weird. Where are you? Why don’t you call? Why did you leave without saying goodbye? You’re supposed to be my best friend. I miss you so much. Love, Blair.
Serena: Why didn’t you send it? I would’ve…
Blair: You would’ve what? You knew Serena and you didn’t even call.
Serena: I didn’t know what to say to you or even how to be your friend after what I did. I’m so sorry.

This is the scene where I fell in love with Blair Waldorf. I was intrigued by Blair before but, her POV wasn't really shown until now. Everything made sense. Blair was mostly hurt because Serena just left without saying goodbye. I always kind of thought it was a cliche to make Blair and Serena fight because of Nate. However, the whole beauty of it is that it was never about Nate in the first place. It was always about Blair and Serena and how much they need each other.

03  ll Bad News Blair

Blair: Because you take everything from me! Nate! My mom! You can’t even help it. It’s who you are! I can’t believe I thought this time might be different. I should have known I’d be wrong.

—————————————————————————————————

You’re way too beautiful girl
That’s why it’ll never work
You’ll have me suicidal, suicidal
When you say it’s over

Ok so I kind of cheated here. It's not one scene in particular but, all of their scenes in this episode. This episode made me realize how much I like show!Serena compared to book!Serena. Book!Serena was always so oblivious while show!Serena was usually quite self-aware. She realized when Blair needed a little help with the photoshoot. That final scene with them taking pictures all across New York. ♥

02 ll Blair Waldorf Must Pie

Blair: I didn't mean for it to happen.

OMG THESE TWO! Why have the writers forgotten about this? I don't want to go over how much I love this scene because the caps say it all.

01 ll Blair Waldorf Must Pie

Nate: Aww too bad. Blair’s direct orders.
Serena: Blair’s not the boss of me.
Nate: Oh, are you new here? Because Blair’s the boss of all us.

—————————————————————————————————

Oh, nothing’s gonna change my love for you,
I wanna spend my life with you.
We’ll make love on the grass under the moon.
No one can tell, damned if I do.
Forever journey on golden avenues,
I drift in your eyes since I love you.
I got the beat in my veins for only rule,
Love is to share, mine is for you.

I know this may sort of seem like a strange choice since it isn't really an OMFG moment or there aren't huge revelations. I love this scene for its simplicity and subtlety. The Nate/Serena connection is shown without being too heavy-handed. It felt so natural. Also Nate! ♥ This was the Nate that I wanted on the show and Chace Crawford can play this Nate very well. He was kind of snarky but, so adorable and lovable. The water fight is just so fucking cute and of course Blair would worry about her hair. It's those little details that make this scene.

I hope you guys enjoyed that. :D I loved making this since everyone is so pretty in this show. k I'm off to catch up on all the LJ comments and entries. So what are your favourite scenes/relationships/storylines from season one? I realized I kind of forgot to picspam the "We're the Non-Judging Breakfast Club" scene and the "I'm the crazy bitch around here one".
